In July, the employees of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. were very excited because on July 10, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao visited Xi’an Coal Machinery Company of the Group. He inspected the workshops, talked with front-line workers and delivered an important speech.

At this moment, the performance of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. has harvested many fruits: from January to June, coal production is 55.89 million tons, increasing by 20.1%; the production of chemical products is 3.24 million tons, increasing by 50.5%; key construction investment completed is 9.286 billion yuan, increasing by 12.4%; sales revenue is 33.682 billion yuan, with a profit of 5.02 billion yuan, increasing by 49.3% and 141.35% respectively. All of the indicators are among the top large state-owned enterprises in Shaanxi province, several of which hit a record high. So, with this as a background, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao’s visit brings great inspiration to the employees of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd.

Accompanied by the Communist Party Secretary of Shaanxi province, Zhao Leji, and the Governor of Shaanxi province, Zhao Zhengyong, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao visited the machine processing workshop and assembly branch of Xi’an Coal Mine Machinery Company of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. The leaders of the Group reported to Prime Minister Wen about the reform, restructuring and development of the company. Those reporting included Hua Wei, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd.; Wang Zengqiang, Chairman of Xi’an Heavy Equipment Group; and Wu Haiyan, General Manager of Xi’an Coal Mine Machinery Co. Ltd.

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said: “Since the restructuring, Xi’an Coal Mine Machinery Company has been rejuvenated as an old enterprise. It seems that the policy of ‘reform, reorganization and transformation’ is very necessary. This company operated in a very difficult situation with a lot of debt, but after the reorganization, the enterprises have been greatly changed. The most fundamental is the reform, including the reform of operations, managing, and human resource management, and what is more important is innovation, including the change of thinking and developing new products.”

During the inspection, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao talked with the accompanying leaders, technical personnel and production workers, and asked about the R&D of coal mining machines and the production of parts. He shook hands with the employees and they greeted each other.

In the CNC machining center of Machinery Processing No. 1 Branch, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao entered the control room for the tri-coordinate measuring machine that was imported from Italy, watched the testing process for large parts, and asked the engineering and technical personnel about the measurement precision; in the assembly branch company, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao watched a 3D simulation presentation of a shearer in mining wells, and had a group photo with excited employees in front of the 2550 Shearer, which is the largest power unit in the world.

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said: “Our coal mining has faced a good time, that is to say, a large number of small coal mines have been restructured and merged with big coal mines, and so the basic condition for applying coal mining machinery is becoming better and better, our own mining machinery has become usable. That means to adjust the structure of mechanical products by following the market orientation is very important after the reorganization. This is absolutely necessary because new products that are suitable for markets are important.”

When it comes to the future development of the enterprise, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao gave some important instructions. He said: “Now this company has obtained the basic success through reorganization and reform and embarked on a new track, but the pace of reform can never stop, the pace of innovation can never stop, only by focusing on these two issues can enterprises continue to make progress. Because markets keep changing, and competition is becoming more severe, enterprises must constantly adjust product structure, and improve product quality and efficiency, this is our task in the future!”

After the visit, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao shook hands with the employees who kept greeting the Prime Minister, waved hands to the staff, and left the company with his car pulling slowly away.

This is the second visit by Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to a branch company of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co. Ltd. In January 2005, he came to Tongchuan Mining Bureau to call on the miners of Xiashijie Mine, who worked in the underground coal mine during the holidays. The two visits by Prime Minister Wen Jiabao have provided great inspiration and encouragement to the 100 thousand employees of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical, especially his important instructions on the development of state-owned enterprises which have pointed out the development direction for Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd.

Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. has set the vision for the 12th Five-Year Plan: by 2015 it will strive to realize 200 million tons of coal production capacity, sales revenue amounting to 200 billion yuan, to rank among the world top 500 enterprises, and to build a first-class environment-friendly energy and chemical enterprise in China. Now that the instructions of Prime Minister Wen Jiabao are publicized in the Group, we must follow the requirement that “the pace of reform can never stop, the pace of innovation can never stop”.
